A month in Bishop is a different lodging problem than a weekend.
Bishop has furnished rentals, motel rooms, cottages, apartments, and a handful of kitchen-equipped options. What makes a longer stay difficult is finding the right one for the dates you actually need. A room that works perfectly for three nights can get old quickly when you are cooking, working, and doing laundry there for six weeks.
If you need to be in Bishop every morning, staying in town may be the easiest choice. If you are here for a longer assignment and care more about having a kitchen, workspace, and room to settle in, it is worth looking beyond Bishop itself.

Start With the Stay You Actually Have to Live
Before comparing nightly rates, think about what your normal week will look like.
Start with your dates. Search the full stay rather than checking a random week and assuming the same unit will be open later. If the end date of an assignment could move, ask what happens if you need another week or need to leave early.
Then look at where you will be going most often. Someone reporting to Northern Inyo Hospital every morning has a different decision from a remote worker, a Caltrans employee or a crew working somewhere else in the Owens Valley.
The room itself deserves the same attention. “Kitchen” can mean anything from a microwave and small refrigerator to a private cooking space with a stovetop and cookware. Check the bedrooms, bathrooms, desk setup, and laundry arrangement too, especially when several people are sharing.
Finally, get the full price for your dates. Ask what is included, what is due up front, and how extensions or early departures are handled.
A little specificity at the beginning makes the search much easier.
Extended-Stay Options Around Bishop
The main choices solve slightly different problems.
A September 2026 Furnished Finder search showed about two dozen Bishop-area listings before dates were applied. They ranged from private rooms in occupied homes to studios, cottages, apartments, and houses.
That variety is useful, but the raw result count can be misleading. What matters is how many units remain once you enter the six or eight weeks you actually need.
Vacation rentals are another possibility, especially when a whole house matters. Bishop is a small market, though, so finding a property online does not mean it will be available for one continuous month.
Hotels and motels remain the easiest option for shorter stays. Some Bishop properties may also quote a weekly or longer rate if you call directly.
A microwave and mini-fridge may be perfectly fine for ten days. They feel different after six weeks.
What About Camping for a Month?
Camping can cover part of a longer Eastern Sierra trip, but ordinary BLM rules make it a poor substitute for month-to-month housing.
At developed Bishop Field Office campgrounds, staying longer than 14 days at one campground or more than 28 days across field-office campgrounds in a calendar year requires permission. Dispersed camping has a separate 14-day annual limit within Bishop Field Office boundaries.
Longer permits exist in some cases, but anyone planning to rely on camping for an extended stay should first check the current rules with the BLM Bishop Field Office.
Kitchen-Equipped Stays in Bishop
You do not have to leave Bishop to find a kitchen.
Bishop Village Motel advertises kitchen units and suites. Mountain View Motel lists kitchens in selected accommodations, and Eastside Guesthouse has a private loft apartment with a kitchen and living space.
Those are worth looking at when Bishop itself is where you need to be.
The important part is checking the specific room rather than trusting an “extended stay” label on a booking site. A conventional hotel, a motel room with a kitchenette and a private apartment can all appear in the same search.
For a month-long stay, those differences become much more noticeable.
What Does a Month Near Bishop Cost?
There is too much variation for one useful average.
In September 2026, Bishop-area Furnished Finder listings visible in search ranged from about $1,075 per month for a private room to $5,000 for a furnished two-bedroom house. Several private studios, cottages, and one-bedroom units were in roughly the $1,550 to $2,200 range.
Those figures are a snapshot, not a quote. Dates, utilities, deposits, cleaning charges, and the type of property can substantially affect the final price.
Compare the full stay rather than the advertised monthly number. A place with a lower rent can become less attractive if you are paying separately for utilities, driving much farther every day or eating out because the cooking setup does not work for you.
Length can also affect lodging taxes.
Palisades begins showing monthly pricing at 28 nights. Inyo County generally treats stays of 30 consecutive days or less as transient occupancy, while Bishop's own lodging-tax instructions treat stays longer than 30 days differently.
Those are separate thresholds. If you are booking around the one-month mark, get the final taxed total directly from the property for your dates.
Longer Work Assignments Near Bishop
Travel nurses are an obvious audience for longer stays here, but they are not the only one.
Northern Inyo Healthcare District uses temporary nursing personnel. Caltrans District 9 is based in Bishop, and LADWP maintains extensive operations throughout the Owens Valley. Construction crews, remote workers, and people temporarily relocating to the area run into many of the same housing questions.
The useful checklist for a work stay is pretty ordinary:
Somewhere you can cook regularly
A sleeping arrangement that works for everyone in the unit
Enough bathrooms if coworkers are sharing
Internet that fits the work you actually do
Laundry nearby
Parking that works for your vehicle
Access that still works when you arrive late
Clear terms if the assignment gets extended
The job location matters just as much as the room.
Northern Inyo Hospital may make Bishop the obvious base. A project farther south could make Big Pine just as convenient, or even better. Put the worksite on the map before assuming that “near Bishop” means you should sleep in Bishop.
When Big Pine Makes Sense
Big Pine is not Bishop.
If you want to walk out of your room and head to a Bishop restaurant most evenings, stay in Bishop.
If you need to be in Bishop early every morning and the shortest possible commute is the priority, Bishop probably wins there too.
Palisades makes more sense when the space you come back to every day carries more weight.

For a short stay centered on Bishop, we would stay in Bishop.
For a longer stay, the answer depends more on the daily routine.
A furnished rental in town is a strong choice when you find the right one for your dates and want to minimize driving. A Bishop motel with a proper kitchen can work well when you want hotel-style flexibility.
Palisades is the better fit when you want your own apartment, plan to cook regularly, need somewhere to work, and don’t mind the drive into Bishop.
